Consultation and Initial Design Process

When you come in for your first consultation you can bring a million ideas with you, or none at all, or something in between! We'll sit down and talk about the event, if there are any styles or shapes you know you love (or hate), motifs that you would like to incorporate, family history with the specific event, or anything else that may come to mind. We'll most likely take measurements and possibly even look at some specific fabrics.

After we've gotten a good idea of a general direction to move in, we'll start shopping for fabrics and come up with several sketches for you to look over. This is a great time for you to pick and choose the elements you like; and we'll work hard to come up with a design that fulfills all of your dreams.

First Fitting

Once the design has been approved, we will make a pattern and a muslin "mock up." The mock up helps us to get the fit just right and helps you to visualize exactly how the finished product will look on you.

This fitting is a great opportunity to make any changes to the shape and design!

Fittings to Finish

After the first fitting in muslin there will most likely be anywhere from 2-4 more fittings in the real fabric.

If you live out of town and want to minimize trips into New Orleans we can certainly make that work, but you should expect at least one fitting in the final fabric, and a final fitting, where we would ask you to come in early and then plan to have lunch (and maybe some shopping!) so that we have time for any last tweaks before you pick up your custom RDH creation.

If you live nearby we’ll usually do a couple more fittings, especially for Queens, so that you have plenty of opportunity to check in on the progress. The final fitting most often occurs in the last two weeks before the event and is a chance to see the whole look come together!
